Diving in Catalina Island

Catalina Island is a beautiful island of white sand beaches near the southern coast of the country. It is a protected natural park where of course there are no buildings.
The first dive is LA PARED, the second dive is in the area known as AQUARIUM.

La Pared

We set sail from the port of La Romana and headed to Catalina Island. The guides will tell you when it is time to prepare for our first dive at the Catalina Wall! Catalina Wall is a beautiful dive site.

The depth of your dive depends on your certification level, but is best between 12m and 18m (40ft and 60ft). There are some shallow parts that are great for snorkeling too! Expect to see lots of fish going about their day and beautiful coral gardens.
Guides will point out interesting things along the way.

El Aquarium

We head to the beach side of the island where, after some drinks and snacks, we do our second dive.

The Aquarium dive site is a favorite of many and is our second dive! The amount of colors and life is incredible, it really is like diving in an aquarium.
The dive site is around 12m (39ft) deep and again our guides will show you all the beautiful creatures.

Catalina Island

We will head to the beach for a typical Dominican barbecue lunch with our toes in the sand. Lunch includes rice, pasta, chicken, pork chops, fruit, salad and bread. This is a great time to share stories with other divers and dive guides about what you saw on the dives! Have a drink at the bar or relax on one of the beach beds or, if you wish, you can snorkel on the beach - it is one of the best places to snorkel in the Dominican Republic!

After some relaxing time on the beach under the Caribbean sun, it's time to return to Bayahibe. Drinks are served on board. When you return to Bayahibe port, all you have to do is return to the dive shop, our team will take care of your equipment.

Diving in Bayahibe

Diving in Bayahibe offers many options for all certification levels. The area has some of the best diving in the world.

Diving Spots

Saona Island

Diving in Bayahibe offers many options for all certification levels. The area has some of the best diving in the world.

Our first stop is the Atlantic Princess. This small wreck is perfect for the first wreck experience for beginner divers. Experienced divers need not worry, there is plenty of life and even some wreck penetration to do at this site. The wreck is 12 m (36 ft) at its deepest point, so on a clear day even divers can enjoy the site.
We will head towards Saona Island and do a dive in Peñón (in front of the national park) or Victoria Reef (in front of Saona Island). Both reefs are full of life and shallow. Expect to see healthy reefs and lots of interesting small and medium-sized marine life.

We headed to Catuano beach on Saona Island. We will have a Dominican barbecue on the beach consisting of rice, pasta, grilled chicken, pork chops, potatoes, salad, fruit and bread. After lunch, divers can enjoy a dip at the old pier, which is ideal for viewing fish in large numbers. Relax on the beach or even do some artisanal shopping or get a massage - Saona Island has something for everyone.
After some relaxing time on the beach under the Caribbean sun, it's time to visit the Natural Pool. A Tour to Saona Island is not complete without a visit to this special place! See the beautiful Red Cushion starfish while standing waist deep on a sandbar in the middle of the National Park. These starfish are real and should be handled with care. Drinks and snacks are served. After a full day in the waters of the Caribbean, it is time to return to Bayahibe. When you return to Bayahibe port, all you have to do is return to the dive shop, our team will take care of your equipment.

Peñon Dive Adventure

Peñón is a beautiful reef in front of the national park. Peñón means rock and is named after the rocks on the side walls. Here you can find one of the best diving sites in the Dominican Republic. It's further away than our local dive sites, but so worth it!

We meet at our dive shop and everyone makes sure they have their equipment, our team will help you get the right equipment and we will load everything on the boat while you meet your dive/snorkel guide and receive the dive briefing for the day .< br> The boat ride itself is beautiful and will take about 40 minutes. There are 3 different dive sites (Peñon 1, 2 and 3) and they are shallow and easy dive sites (12 - 18 m / 36 - 54 ft). These dive sites are for all types of divers, from beginners to experienced. We do two dives and try to see as much of the 3 sites as possible during this half day excursion (drift dives).

The corals have beautiful colors and shapes and you can find moray eels, crabs, lobsters, rays and many different fish (for example, parrotfish, angelfish, logfish and pufferfish). There is also the possibility of spotting sea turtles, seahorses and nurse sharks.
We leave with our customized dive boats around 09:00 am. and we do two dives with a surface interval in between. All our dives are guided in small groups. We do a 45-50 minute dive, probably a drift dive due to the current. During the surface interval we headed to the second dive site (very close). You don't have to worry about your tank and equipment; We change your bottle and prepare everything for the second dive. You can relax, enjoy the fresh fruit, muffins and drinks we offer and share your diving stories with the rest of the group.

Parguera & Peñon Diving

La Parguera and Peñón are one of the best diving sites in the Dominican Republic, Peñón is in front of the national park and La Parguera in front of Saona Island. It's further away than our local dive sites, but so worth it. With the Advanced Open Water certification (or Open Water, depending on how many dives you have logged) you can explore these beautiful dive sites.

We meet at our dive shop and everyone makes sure they have their equipment, our team will help you get the right equipment and we will load everything on the boat while you meet your dive/snorkel guide and receive the dive briefing for the day .< br> The boat ride itself is beautiful and will last about 60 minutes. The maximum depth of La Parguera is about 25 meters (80 feet) and there is a possibility that you will have to deal with a strong current during this dive. Second dive site, Peñón is easy and shallow, the maximum depth is 12 meters (40 feet). The corals have beautiful colors and shapes and you can find moray eels, crabs, lobsters, rays and many different fish (for example, parrotfish, angelfish, logfish and pufferfish). There is also the possibility of spotting sea turtles, seahorses, eagle rays and nurse sharks.

We leave with our customized dive boats around 09:00 am. and we do two dives with a surface interval in between. All our dives are guided in small groups. We do a 45-50 minute dive, probably a drift dive due to the current. During the surface interval we headed to the second dive site (15 minutes by boat). You don't have to worry about your tank and equipment; We change your bottle and prepare everything for the second dive. You can relax, enjoy the fresh fruit, muffins and drinks we offer and share your diving stories with the rest of the group. After the second dive, we return to the dive center around 14:00/14:30. At the diving center we can help you complete your log.

St. George Wreck

This boat was built in 1962 in Scotland. This transatlantic cargo ship, which transported wheat and barley between Norway and the Americas, was abandoned in the port of Santo Domingo after 20 years of service. St. George, renamed after taking the full brunt of Hurricane George, was purchased by the Dominicus Club and scuttled on June 12, 1999.

With the Advanced Open Water certification (or Open Water, depending on the number of logged dives) you can explore this incredible wreck. Sponges, corals and schools of tropical fish make St. George their home.
We meet at our dive shop and everyone makes sure they have their equipment, our team will help you get the right equipment and we will load everything on the boat while you meet your dive/snorkel guide and receive the dive briefing for the day . This dive site is one of our local dive sites and is only a 10 minute boat ride away. The maximum depth is 40 m (120 ft). We can combine the St. George dive with an Atlantic Princess shallow ship wreck or a shallow reef dive site. It is also possible to combine the St George with one of the Peñón dive sites.

Drinks and snacks are served on board. After some excellent dives, it is time to return to Bayahibe. When you return to Bayahibe port, all you have to do is return to the dive shop, our team will take care of your equipment.

Cave Diving!

Near our diving center, within the beautiful 'Del Este' national park, you can find the 'El Chicho' cave. You don't have to be cave certified to join us on this adventure! With the Advanced Open Water certification (or Open Water, depending on how many logged dives you have) you can do it.

Immerse yourself in the fresh, crystal-clear water of 'El Chicho', a tunnel of beautiful stalagmites and stalactites. The maximum depth is 14 m (50 ft) and the length is 190 m (625 ft).

We prepare our equipment at the diving center and the instructor will give you a briefing and explain the most important rules of cave diving.

We get ready and drive to the national park. It is a 15/20 minute trip to the cave. The guys inside the national park help us with the equipment and we descend and explore the cave. The immersion will last approximately 40/50 minutes in total.

Night Diving

If you want to experience something different, try a night dive and discover the underwater world in the dark with us. See what underwater nightlife has to offer! It is completely different to see dive sites at night, the colors look different and you have the possibility of seeing certain animals that are hidden during the day (for example, octopuses and crabs).

We have many different places we can take you. We can take you to a shallow reef where you can find lots of fish, lobsters, crabs, moray eels and if you are lucky you will see an octopus or squid hunting for your dinner!

You can also choose a more adventurous dive and do one of the wrecks overnight. Visit the wreck and search the corners of the rooms for whatever you can find, maybe a green moray eel?!

The St George shipwreck at night is also an incredible experience, but only for more experienced divers. We can do the night dive any day of the week with a minimum of 2 people. During the summer we leave around 18:30 and during the winter around 18:00.

Diving in Puerto Plata - Sosua

Sosua Bay has great dive spots for beginners and more challenging dives for experienced divers. All dive sites are between 2 and 8 minutes by boat from the beach. We have minimal changes in tides and currents. The visibility can be incredible and we dive all year round with average water temperatures of 26c/80f.

Expect to see many smaller sea creatures such as spider crabs, flamingo tongues, lots of yellowtail snappers, sergeant majors, parrotfish and wrasses. We often find seahorses, nudibranchs and turtles. Between December and March is whale watching season and these incredible creatures pass through Sosúa Bay on their way to Samaná to breed.

Diving in Sosua Bay

3 Rocks & Coral Gardens (Max Depth 18m/60ft)

These 2 dive sites really have it all. An abundance of marine life and interesting for both novice divers and seasoned professionals. 3 Rocks is the perfect location for Discover Scuba Divers, starting at 3m/10ft with a beautiful sandy bottom dropping down to 9m/30ft. Friendly sergeants major, blue tangs, and yellowtail snappers will come to greet you as you enter the water. This site is home to the Sosua Bay Rejuvenation Project coral nurseries. Take a look at staghorn cuttings growing on rope structures. As we leave the deeper side of 3 Rocks and slowly head towards Coral Gardens, we pass over thousands of garden eels. Watch them go back into their holes as you slide over them. At Coral Gardens you will find beautiful patches of coral inhabited by gorgonians, whips and sponges. Keep an eye out for goatfish feeding in the sand and pay special attention to all those nooks and crannies; It is not uncommon to see giant green moray eels hiding in the dark.

Mini Wall/Deep Wall (Max Depth 33m/110ft)

Whether we start on the deep line in 14m/35ft or the shallow lines off Playa Alecia, this dive site is a true gem. Hundreds of people watch fans line the top of the reef. Hang out at the top of the wall and go down to the depths. If you are an advanced diver, go down a little further and then look up and watch the sunlight shine off the surface. We have regularly been seeing sea turtles and it is a favorite place to find small seahorses. A must-do dive that is accessible to divers with open water certifications and above. If you decide you would like to go on one of our private lionfish hunting excursions, the deeper parts of the wall are a good place to look for our lunch.

West Wall & La Puntilla (Max Depth 20m/65ft)

These two dive sites are just a 30 second boat ride from the beach and can be dived in different ways. Who knew you would find such a variety of marine life so close to the coast. Starting at 5m/15ft and going down to 20m/60ft, these dive sites are home to 3 sunken old gallon cannons and the reef dome structures installed by the Sosúa Bay Rejuvenation Project. Expect to see grunts, wrasses and snappers hanging at the top of the wall. As we head over the top of the wall and a little deeper, look under the overhangs to find giant arrow crabs and moray eels. This is another great place to find seahorses, so pay attention, they are not that easy to find.

Canyon (Max Depth 18m/60ft)

At the far left of Sosua Bay we will find the Canyon. A sandy bottom with a huge rock pinnacle rests on the inside of the reef. Glide down Rob's Rock and watch schools of fish swim around you. A perfect spot for photography enthusiasts with a maximum depth of 9m/30ft inside the wall and plenty of light for those great photos. As we move away from the inner reef you will begin to understand why the dive site got its name. Pass between a split in the reef and begin descending to 18m/60ft. Watch as the French grunts begin to move away and the ocean opens. It is then up to us whether we follow the wall towards the cliffs of Los Charamicos or take the opposite direction and look for the remains of the small fishing boat Miguelina.

Airport Wall & Elephante (Max Depth 26m/85ft)

What can we say about the Airport Wall? The best in Sosúa and one of the most recognized diving sites in the Dominican Republic. This is without a doubt one of the best wall dives in the Dominican Republic, with multiple entry points, tunnels, passageways and truly impressive bottom topography. The wall can be as shallow as 5m/15ft and can descend to 26m/85ft or more. With so many places to explore along this wall, we could dive again and again and still not get tired of the scenery. It is best to dive at the airport in the mornings when ocean conditions are optimal with minimal waves and wind.

Pyramids & Palm Trees (Max Depth 18m/60ft)

On the same side of Sosua Bay as the Airport Wall we can find two separate dive sites. Palm Trees is home to a number of swims and Pyramids has a number of intriguing rock formations. These dive sites are suitable for PADI Open Water Divers and above. Both are just a short boat ride from the coast and are easily frequented. If we land in Las Palmeras, we will head west towards the Puerto Plata airport, where after a long and calm drift dive we will find the end of the Pyramids. The pyramids themselves start in a small bay with a huge rock perched on the side of the cliffs. Drop down to just 5m/15ft of water and let's begin our dive. But watch out for those spiny black sea urchins. After either of the two dives we will place a surface marker buoy and the boat will come to pick us up.

Ray Point/Chiquita Reef (Max Depth 40m/130ft)

I love this dive site. The wall starts at 20m/65ft and then the vertical drop goes well beyond the limits of recreational diving. Glide along the wall and peer into the depths in hopes of spotting spotted eagle rays passing by. This dive site is located in front of Playa Chiquita and really is a must for advanced divers. Fan corals, huge ledges, grunts, wrasses and yellow rays populated this reef. I was even lucky enough to encounter a whole pod of dolphins here on a previous dive and they stayed with us for 15 minutes curiously watching us and playing in the water as we continued our dive.

The Zingara (Max Depth 36m/118ft)

Rescued from Puerto Plata 20 years ago and sunk here especially for diving, this 30m/100ft long old freighter, which used to transport coffee and fruit around the Caribbean, is covered of corals and is home to a variety of different fish. It sits in 36m/118ft of water and is definitely for the more experienced diver. The long mooring line reaches the funnel and it is possible to penetrate the stern and the engine room. It is not a long dive due to its depths but it is spectacular. There are some stories of how the Zingara got to be where it is, but they will have to wait until you book a diving package with us.

Paradise/Larimar (Max Depth 40m/130ft)

Just opposite the Gansevoort Hotel are the Paradise/Larimar 1&2 reefs. The deeper reef is a great location for training dives for the PADI Advanced Open Water course. The top of the reef measures 18m/60ft and then drops to 30m/100ft or more. A sunken toilet sits near the drop line, head down the wall sliding along the long barrel sponges that populate the wall. We then headed to a beautiful rock pinnacle that holds many juvenile fish and the shallower reef of Larimar 1.

Coral Garden Wall (Max Depth 40m/130ft)

After 3 Rocks & Coral Gardens you will find Coral Garden Wall. A deep and expansive outer reef that needs to be explored. Some parts slope gently downward, other parts have gigantic rock and coral structures. We could dive into this site again and again and find new things each time. Without mooring lines, you can fall at a variety of points, but watch your computer as we go down. Sea fans, whips and sponges populate this area and, if you hit the right spots, it's also a great place to find those invasive lionfish.

Five Rocks

An aptly named dive site extending to over 100m/330ft. These large rock pinnacles make for an interesting dive, starting at a very shallow depth of 4m/13ft and descending to 26m/85ft. The coral heads themselves look like huge pillars and provide excellent opportunities for underwater photography. Keep an eye out for crabs, moray eels and puffer fish. Expect to spend around 8 minutes on the boat heading to Puerto Plata and the airport.
